An activity is what you report time on. It decides whether the time can be invoiced, whether it affects payroll and what it costs internally. Activities are created under **Settings** > **Activities**.

If you want to understand the concept first, see [Activities: what the word means and how they are handled in Kleer](/en/installningar/aktiviteter-vad-innebar-ordet-aktivitet-och-hur-hanteras-de-i-kleer).

## Create the activity

Choose **New activity** and enter the name. The settings that apply to the reporting itself are under the **General** tab.

**Description** is shown as help text for the person who reports time on the activity. It is worth filling in when it is not obvious what belongs here.

**Comment required when time is recorded** forces a comment. Note that this applies to the **internal** comment, which is for internal use and is not shown on the invoice to the customer.

**Internal hourly cost per hour** is used as a suggestion when internal cost is set in a user's time reporting settings. It is a starting point, not a locked value.

## Invoiceable

Tick **Invoiceable** if time on the activity should be possible to invoice. The details are then set under the invoicing tab.

**Rounding off of invoiced hours** rounds the reported hours automatically before invoicing. The rounding can be overwritten in the invoicing basis, so it is a default and not an obstacle.

The price is taken from the chosen product and shown in blue text. A blue figure therefore means an inherited value, and you can overwrite it with one of your own.

## Affecting payroll

If time on the activity should be able to affect payroll, you make a setting for it. Which setting it is depends on which payroll engine you use.

### The current payroll engine

Tick **Affecting payroll**. The activity is then linked to a **payroll item**, and a **formula for impact on payroll** decides the price of the payroll item per hour. Values are entered in kronor.

If the activity should affect comp time, there is a separate **formula for effect of time off in lieu (TOIL)**.

### The new payroll engine

With the new payroll engine the activity is linked to a pay item instead of a payroll item. Contact your Kleer consultant for help with setting this up.

## Add the activity to a project

Once the activity exists, you link it to the project. If you are reporting time and the activity is missing on the page, use **Add project** under the table, or the green plus sign to the right of the project's total if the project is already shown.

:::note
If the activity should be usable by subcontractors, it is not enough that it exists. The product behind the activity must have **Can be used by subcontractors** ticked and an accounting account for self-billed invoices, and this must be done before the first customer invoices are created. See [The subcontractor module](/en/underkonsulter/underkonsultmodulen-och-sjalvfakturor-i-kleer-for-administratorer).
