Kleer MCP: AI for financial analysis
Connect Claude, ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot Studio directly to your financial data in Kleer. How to connect, what you can ask about, and how permissions control what the AI assistant sees.
Kleer MCP lets you connect an AI assistant, Claude, ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot Studio, directly to your financial data in Kleer. You ask questions in plain language and the assistant fetches the answers live from your Kleer system, without a manual export to Excel.
All data is fetched in real time. The assistant does not make up figures. It bases every answer on actual data from Kleer.
If you want to see how the connection fits together with the prompt library, the skills and the agents, see Get started with AI in Kleer (in Swedish).
What is Kleer MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standardised protocol that lets AI models communicate with external systems in real time. Kleer MCP is Kleerâs own MCP server, meaning a service that sits between the AI assistant and your Kleer data and lets it fetch, analyse and present financial and payroll information directly in the conversation.
The service works in three steps:
-
You ask a question
You ask the assistant for financial information in plain language, just as you would ask a colleague.
-
The assistant calls Kleer
The assistant sends a structured call to the Kleer MCP server, which fetches the right data from your Kleer system.
-
Live data is presented
Kleer returns current data and the assistant presents it as an answer, a table or a summary.
Get started
Prerequisites
- A user in Kleer. You log in with BankID, and the assistant only sees what your roles in Kleer allow.
- Claude, ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot Studio. Claude and ChatGPT work in the app or in the browser, and Claude can also be connected in Claude Code.
Each company decides for itself whether the connection is on, and whether tools that change something in Kleer, for example time reports, expenses and leave, are allowed. This is set under Settings, see Switch on MCP for your company. If the connection is off, nobody in the company can use Kleer MCP.
The address of Kleer MCP is:
https://mcp.kleer.se/mcp
Connect Claude
-
Open the settings for connectors
Log in to claude.ai and go to Settings > Connectors.
-
Add Kleer
Choose Add custom connector. Enter Kleer as the name and
https://mcp.kleer.se/mcpas the address, and choose Connect. -
Log in to Kleer
You are sent on to mcp.kleer.se. Log in with BankID, in the same way as in Kleer. It is your own login that is used, and therefore your own permissions.
-
Start asking
Start a new chat. Kleerâs tools are now in the conversation. The connector belongs to your account on claude.ai, so it is also in the Claude app, in Cowork and in Claude Code when you log in with the same account.
Connect ChatGPT
-
Switch on Developer Mode
Log in to ChatGPT and go to Settings > Apps > Advanced Settings. Switch on Developer Mode.
-
Create an app for Kleer
Choose Create app at the top. Enter Kleer as the name and
https://mcp.kleer.se/mcpas the address, choose OAuth as the authentication and create the app. -
Log in to Kleer
You are sent on to mcp.kleer.se. Log in with BankID.
-
Switch on Kleer in the chat
Start a new chat, choose + > More and switch on Kleer. Developer Mode needs to be switched on in every chat where you want to use Kleer.
Connect Microsoft Copilot Studio
-
Add a tool to the agent
Open your agent in Copilot Studio and go to Tools. Choose Add a tool > New tool > Model Context Protocol.
-
Enter Kleer
Enter Kleer as the server name and
https://mcp.kleer.se/mcpas the address, and choose OAuth 2.0 as the authentication. -
Create the tool
Choose Create. Kleerâs tools are now available in the agent.
Gemini Enterprise
Gemini Enterprise is not supported yet. Google requires the AI service to be registered in advance with Kleerâs MCP server with a fixed client ID, and that support does not exist yet.
Other AI clients and your own agents
Kleer MCP is a standard MCP server on the internet. It therefore works with other AI clients and with agents you build yourself, as long as the client can handle the login below. Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot Studio are described step by step above. For other clients, this applies:
| What | Value |
|---|---|
| Address | https://mcp.kleer.se/mcp |
| Transport | Streamable HTTP, meaning MCP over HTTPS |
| Login | OAuth with authorization code and PKCE (S256). The user logs in with BankID in the browser |
| Settings | The client reads them itself from https://mcp.kleer.se/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server |
| Client registration | Dynamic, at https://mcp.kleer.se/register. An AI service that requires a pre-registered client, for example Gemini Enterprise, is not supported yet |
| Renewal | The client receives a refresh token and can renew the login without you logging in again |
| Revoking | The clientâs token can be revoked at https://mcp.kleer.se/revoke. The logout tool logs you out in all clients |
Claude Code in the terminal. If you have not already connected Kleer in claude.ai, add the server with this command:
claude mcp add --transport http kleer https://mcp.kleer.se/mcp
Start Claude Code, type /mcp, choose kleer and log in with BankID in the browser that opens.
Other clients. Cursor, VS Code, Gemini CLI and similar each have their own settings file for MCP servers. Enter the address above as a remote server with HTTP transport and let the client handle the OAuth login. The exact format is in the clientâs own documentation. In many clients it looks roughly like this:
{ "mcpServers": { "kleer": { "url": "https://mcp.kleer.se/mcp" } } }
Your own agents. If you build an agent with an MCP SDK, choose a version that can log in to remote servers with OAuth, and let it open the login in the browser the first time. The agent works with the permissions of the person who logged in and not with an identity of its own, see Permissions and what the assistant sees.
Unattended agents are not supported yet. Kleer MCP has no API keys, no service accounts and no way to log in without a person. The server only supports login with authorization code and refresh token, so a person must log in with BankID at least once. How long a login lasts is controlled by Kleer and can change, so build the agent so that it can cope with asking for a new login. If you need to run something entirely without a person, contact your consultant at Kleer.
Choose a company
If you work in a group, or have several companies, you choose which company the questions are to apply to before you start asking. See Multiple companies.
What you can ask about
Below are the areas in broad terms. The full list of tools, what each tool does and how the figures are calculated is at What Kleer can answer. The list changes over time as Kleer builds out more, so tell your consultant if you are missing something.
Finance and results
A combined overview with key figures in real time, an income statement for any period with the option of a comparison period, a balance sheet on a chosen date, general ledger, account activity and vouchers, and export of accounting data in SIE4 format.
The assistant can also show the companyâs categories, for example business areas and projects, with their items and ids, and search among the items by name. Items that are no longer used are shown and marked as inactive. It is the ids of the categories you need when you want to see the results for a certain category or book an expense to it.
If you have access to several companies, the results can be shown for several of them side by side, see Multiple companies.
Liquidity and payments
Current cash position, liquidity forecast, VAT forecast, bank transactions, and accounts receivable and accounts payable ledgers with ageing analysis. Open credit invoices are deducted from accounts receivable and accounts payable and shown separately, so that the totals do not come out too high.
The VAT return
The assistant can show what should go in the VAT return for a month, a quarter or a year, box by box: sales, output VAT, purchases, input VAT and box 49, that is the VAT to pay or to get back. The boxes are calculated from the bookkeeping in the same way as Kleerâs VAT report, and each box is rounded down to whole kronor.
- It is a basis, not a return. Use it to reconcile before you submit the return. Nothing is sent to the Swedish Tax Agency.
- You state the period yourself. Kleer does not know whether the company reports VAT per month, quarter or year, so say which period you want to see.
- Kleerâs own VAT voucher is not counted. The voucher that moves the periodâs VAT to the VAT account is kept out and reported separately, otherwise the period would look like zero.
Customers and invoicing
Customer register, customer invoices, products and price lists, recurring revenue (MRR and ARR) with forecast. The assistant can also list the companyâs ongoing customer agreements: customer, what each invoice charges, invoice interval, annual value, and start, next invoice date and end date. Ended agreements are only shown if you ask for them. The amounts are counted as Kleer invoices them, so discounts in kronor are deducted and rows with quantity zero give no amount. If the company has sales to other EU countries or is VAT registered abroad, you can also ask for the EC Sales List (periodic summary) and for foreign sales per country.
Payroll and staff
Payroll runs, payroll cost per period with forecast, payroll events, vacation liability and vacation balances, and how many people are employed on a given day. You can also ask about your own salary.
Projects and time
Project margins, utilisation per employee, internal hourly costs, time reports and authorisation flows. If you are going to report time yourself, you can also ask Claude to open a weekly form directly in the conversation, pre-filled with your own projects, instead of you dictating rows one by one.
Expenses and suppliers
The expense flow from receipt to reimbursement, supplier invoices, subcontractors and supplier details. The assistant can show what a single expense consists of: each row with date, description, expense type, amount and VAT, receipt, participants and which project it is re-invoiced to. Mileage allowance is shown with distance and amount, but without addresses. The assistant can also show which card purchases are missing a receipt and link receipts you have sent to Kleer to the right card purchase, see Receipts and expenses with Kleer MCP (in Swedish).
Other
The assistant can also search Kleerâs manuals and check a supplier or an incoming supplier invoice against Svensk Handelâs Warning List (Varningslistan), the public register of companies that send fraudulent invoices. The list is loaded at most once a day, so a hit can be up to a day old, and neither a hit nor a clean check is proof in itself, but a signal to follow up. If you check many suppliers at once, the answer says how many could only be checked by name. A name is what a fraudster copies most easily, so no hits does not mean the whole accounts payable ledger has been checked. Account number and organisation number give a more reliable check.
Example questions
You can paste the questions below in directly. There are more in the Prompt library (in Swedish).

How many people are employed in the company today, and how has that changed since the turn of the year?
Permissions and what the assistant sees
This is the most important part to understand before you start.
- The assistant never sees more than you are allowed to see yourself. The connection uses your own login and your permissions in Kleer. If you lack permission to salaries in Kleer, the assistant cannot read salaries on your behalf either. In a few places the assistant shows less than Kleerâs interface, for example prices for someone without permission to invoice.
- The company can switch the connection off. If you do not want anyone in the company to use Kleer MCP, switch it off under Settings, see Switch on MCP for your company. It then applies to the whole company. Switching off individual tools, for example only those that read payroll data, is not possible today.
The basis is reading and analysing. Tools that create or change data in Kleer, for example reporting time or applying for leave, require that Kleer has switched them on for your company. Such an action is also never saved directly: the assistant first shows what will happen and waits for your approval before anything is sent to Kleer.
If you want to know which personal data a certain call discloses, there is the GDPR skill on the page Skills and instruction files.
Switch on MCP for your company
Each company chooses whether its users may connect to Kleer MCP, and whether they may also make changes through MCP. Both settings are off until someone in the company switches them on.
Who can change the settings
The page is for whoever administers the company in Kleer. You need the Ekonomiansvarig (finance manager) permission with write access. Other users do not see the menu item.
How to do it
-
Open the page
Choose Settings in the menu and then MCP-Ätkomst (MCP access). The link only shows if you have access to the page.
-
Choose what is allowed
- Allow reading via MCP. Users can connect from an AI agent and read what they can already see in Kleer. If it is off, nobody in the company can use Kleer MCP.
- Allow changes via MCP. Users can create and change data through MCP. Today that covers expenses, time reports and leave requests, and more may follow. Each change is confirmed by the user before it is saved.
-
Save
Choose Save. The change takes effect within a minute.
Good to know
- Changes require reading. Switching reading off switches changes off too, and they stay off when you switch reading back on. You switch changes on again with a separate choice.
- It applies to the whole company. You cannot switch it on for individual users. Each user still only sees what they already have permission to in Kleer.
- Switching off does not undo what has already been saved.
- History. At the bottom of the page you can see which changes were made, from which value to which, by whom and when.
Multiple companies
If you work in a group, the connection is linked to one company at a time. You choose the company before you ask the question, and the assistant can tell you which company is selected if you ask.
The results are the exception. They can be shown for several companies side by side, for example a parent company and its subsidiaries, without you changing company between questions. Each company gets its own results, and the total is added up per currency.
- It is a comparison, not a group report. Items between the companies are not eliminated and ownership shares are not included, so the total is not the groupâs result. A consolidated report with eliminations is in The group module.
- Companies you cannot reach are never counted as zero. If you do not have access to a company, or it could not be read, it is stated separately in the answer and is not included in the total.
Limitations
Good to know before you build workflows on the service:
- One company per question, except for the results. The results can be shown for several companies side by side. Everything else, for example the balance sheet and the ledgers, you ask about per company and then put together.
- Not all data in Kleer is exposed. The range of tools covers the most common questions, but not every field that exists in the interface. If you are missing something, tell your consultant at Kleer.
- The assistant is not an auditor. The answers are based on data in Kleer, but the interpretation is still yours. If the question concerns closing of the accounts, tax or regulations, check with your accounting consultant.
- The figures are as fresh as the bookkeeping. If an invoice is not authorised or a bank event is not reconciled, it does not show in the answer.
If something does not work
- The assistant says the tools do not exist. Check that Kleer has been added in Claudeâs connectors, or that Kleer is switched on in the chat in ChatGPT.
- The assistant cannot get salaries or other data you expected. Check your permissions in Kleer. If they are missing there, they are missing here too. If the assistant says something was left out, for example prices or colleaguesâ time, your permissions do not cover that part.
- The answer applies to a different company than you thought. Ask the assistant which company is selected and change it if needed.
- The figures do not match the report in Kleer. Check the period in the question, and that you are comparing the same thing. If it still differs, take it up with your consultant and describe both the question and the expected value.
Data and operation
The Kleer MCP server is run as a cloud service in Microsoft Azure, in the region Sweden Central.
No data is copied to any separate database for AI purposes. Every answer is fetched in real time from your Kleer system at the moment of the question.
